Beginning the Loving Kindness Practice by, Dacher (2006), seemed similar to other meditations that I have done in the past. I have not gone through any practices of taking on other peoples suffering and transforming it before. I’ve sent other people loving-kindness in the past but not taken on their suffering for transformation. That part was interesting. Pre-reading the loving-kindness process helped me to understand that this new experience was not going to injure me and that in itself gave me the confidence to make the full attempt that the guidance instructed. Evidently during the segment of taking on more people’s suffering and transforming it, I fell asleep. Most interesting! In other meditations I’ve been told that this is particularly good because I needed exactly that, in that moment. So, I’m not sure if that means my first attempt was successful for the other people that I was working with but it helped me out with something that I evidently needed and I do feel quite refreshed. This will be interesting to see the developmental stages. I'm looking forward to it.

That is cool that you were a little familiar with some of the techniques that were used in this exercise. I have not really practiced meditation like this before. I got a little dizzy on my first attempt. I think that if you fell asleep that is fine. It meant your body was tired. I am also eager to see what other techniques we will learn throughout the rest of the class.
Don’t feel bad about falling asleep on Dacher meditation exercise; I fail asleep my first try also. I think that falling asleep doing any kind of meditating will happen some times, after all it is relaxing, so if we are tired we will probably fall asleep. I can’t wait to really put Dacher exercise to the test when I get accustom to doing it, at that point I can do it without thinking about it then I can really focus on what I am doing.

I think it is a good thing that you were able to fall asleep during meditation. I believe that means that you are focused and relaxed. I always had difficulty with things such as meditation because my mind is always going and I can't concentrate.
Hey Barb,
It sounds like you had great success with this exercise. Was that the best sleep you ever had? LOL. I'm still having trouble with clearing my mind, but I'm going to keep working on it. After all practice makes perfect, as long as you're practicing the right way. Nice post. Daria
I found your comment that you fell asleep interesting. I got into such an advanced state of calm it felt almost like sleeping because this feeling of utter relaxation and being in the moment was such an unfamiliar experience for me. I also have trained with a meditation master in the past and have had one very intense experience in a session. This loving kindness practice was just what I needed to heal myself inward. I found it very healing and I learned to be kind and compassionate to me. It was very powerful. When I finished the exercise I was left with such a feeling of calm and peace, I felt like I woke up from a very restful nap. I can understand how you can drift off into sleep once you begin to calm yourself to such a deep state. I am learning to control my thoughts with my breath and together they become one in the moment, much like a mindful conscious state. I really enjoyed this also and am looking forward to continuing this exercise. I found myself going to such a deep level it felt uncomfortable because I was not used to this next step. We will see where this leads me. I love this class and enjoyed your post.
